if your Exchange server is well behind your firewall, and you have either PPTP or L2TP vpn installed you can get access to the IMAP with reasonable safety.
I have a few people here using it. There are a couple caveats, such as only mailboxes below inbox are accessible. No calendar or contact synchronization.

I'll have to set it up at home, havent tried with Outlook and IMAP yet. Heres the question though, do I need to create an IMAP connector like I did with POP or does such a thing not exist?
yeah we use a PPTP vpn for the iPhones.
Bummer though because DNS isn't working right, so you have to VPN in, get mail, then log out. While on the VPN there is no DNS resolution...
Hardly a biz class solution, but for those who had to have it...
