I have a good knowledge of C and C++.I want to choose Desktop& Distributed app papers in either VB or VC.A friend who works for a company in the U.S says VC is more in demand
and says is hence more beneficial
and others say VB costs less in terms of time and effort.I would be grateful to any one who can give me a cost-benefit
analysis and help me make up my mind.

IMO there are a lot of jobs in VB and a lot of money in C. Also bear in mind that a job using VB is a nice cushy feet-on-the-table job, where as a job in C is a brain twisting nightmare hell job.

I'd go for VB, but then again I'm the laziest person I know. If you know C anyway, go for VC - money money money.

It won't make a difference when .NET hits anyway.

I agree with hellferret. If I were in your position I would go for the VC exams.
Because my experience was with VB, those were the exams I took and they were not easy. But I would imagine C is more difficult, and remember, if it's hard you get paid more! You have an edge over people with only VB knowledge, so you would do well to make the most of it and build on your existing skills rather than diversifying at this stage - there will be plenty of time to do that later. Thanks helferret,cassie........I think I like what cassies says mostly but though I haven't taken the VB exams, what I know till now of VB seems pretty simple and easy like hellferret says. It's all like drag and draw, not much coding at all!Having said that ...I think VC seems to be more appreciated as I can discern from what u guys say.I have one question-How is the question going to become irrelevant
when .net hits?
