Hey guys, I'm hoping to connect 3 computers to a network so they can share internet (dial-up), share hard drives, share printer, scanner and play games against each other. The only thing is I don't know where to begin... Could someone please help me on what I need and how to set-it up... Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

It is possible to share an internet connection when using a modem that dials up to your ISP. It can get kind of slow any time someone is downloading, but it is fine for email and chat. I have done it with 3 computers and a hub or switch.

There is always the danger of damage due to electrical storms. This is particularly bad in the midwest. I had a Hub short out on me and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong. I have a telephone pole behind my house with one of thos big transformers mounted on it. The thing is like a lightning magnet!!! The amazing thing is that none of the NIC cards or computers were affected. You may want to get a good power strip that is designed to catch the power surges. They make versions for both cable tv plugs and phone lines. I have my networking equipment on a separate power strip so I can turn that part off separately.

So if you get lots of lightning in your area in the summer watch out. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
