Hey,

We have IBM pSeries Server running IBM AIX (IP Add= 192.168.0.10). I want to configure the IBM server to print on the Network printer (IP ADD= 192.168.0.15).

There is also another printer which is attached to (via LPT port) NCR Server running NCR Unix. Is there any possibility to print via the NCR Printer?

Plsssssssss help me the soones possible.

For your first question configure your network printer as a jetdirect one.

For the second question use NCR unix way ti share your printer or to act as a printer sever

Hi,

thanx for your reply.

How could I configure my network printer as a jetdirect one. I don't have a jetdirect software for IBM AIX. I am accessing via telnet from my admin PC (Windows XP).

Can you please elaborate for me?

Thanx in advance

You should be able to print to the NCR. Try the following

Add the I.P & hostname of the NCR machine to /etc/hosts

On your AIX server

smit spooler
add a print queue
remote
standard processing

Name of Queue = NCR
Hostname = NCRhostname (As in /ets/hosts)
Name of queue on remote = (whatever it's called)
Type = System V
Description = NCR Printer

F6 to commit

use command

lpstat -t

to list queues

try printing

As for the other printer do the same as above but try hpJetdirect instead of remote.

Thanx Mrn for your assistance.

I checked it with as per your information but still I can't print. May be I have to configure something on the NCR Unix.

I can print directly from the NCR Unix machine.

I have to check how to share printer (to act as a print server) on the NCR Unix machine

Thanx for your all your help man.

Be sure that you set the timeout feature. Default is 90 seconds which means if the printer has a failure because of paper jam or something of that nature - it will timeout after 90 seconds. If you set this feature - use 90 or 999 - something like that - which gives you 90 minutes to fix the problem before the queue goes down.
