Configuring Netbackup Server/Client to use specific NIC 1

I've got one Netbackup Server running on Sun Solaris 7 and two client machines running Windows 2000. I'm in the initial stages of trying to get Netbackup setup correctly and implement it at our site.

Both the server and clients have secondary network interfaces communicating through a non-routable subnet backlan as to not flood the outward facing interfaces with backup traffic. My problem is not being able to figure out how to specify Netbackup Server and the client pieces to do all their communication through those secondary interfaces.

I can ping from server to client across the backlan and even got the "bpauthsync" command to setup the keys on the server and clients (which I think actually occurred across the frontlan connections).

This is probably something completely simple that I just haven't found yet in the daunting mound of documentation I have, but if anyone's done this I could really use the assistance.

Thanks.

captdef,

If you have not fixed this problem yet...On the Solaris box in the bp.conf file add this line REQUIRED_INTERFACE = IP address...Now the 2000 clients are a diffrent story unless you have the admin client loaded you will have to modify the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE software...veritas...config...add a new string REQUIRED_INTERFACE and add the IP.

Thanks much for the info. This should hopefully get things working a bit better.

For windows 2000 servers, I have a 2nd nic card in every server i want to backup. I give the second nic card an IP address. Then i use a host file on the master server.

Example:

if i have a server named TIP_hoha
and for the client name in netbackup admin i have TIP
First thing is that netbackup is not going to know what TIP is unless you use a host file
in the host file you would have
129.168.55.43 TIP
which will make TIP point to the right nic, which will be your 2nd nic

I use this so that there is not much traffic on my network

hope this helps
