Hi all,

hopefully some of you might have some ideas about a problem I'm having with CIM 7...

1. I have installed the management software on a server and installed the client software on another server. The management server discovered the client no problem, so I have two servers in the device list. Any major events do not seem to flag up anywhere on that device (eg.. pulling out the patch lead from one of the nics). There is an area on the device home page called Integrated Management where the NIC status does show up... Why doesn't the event show up anywhere else ???

2. I was attemping e-mail notification, but I get an error message saying it can't reach the email address

I've put the SMTP address in as the SMTP server
I've put in one of the e-mail addresses on our exchange server eg.. my.name@company.co.uk

It's not quite as easy to setup as I thought !!

any ideas would be fantastic !!

cheers
Roddy

try telnet "mailserver" 25 from your cim7 server

if this answers you have the correct smtp server and you can mail from it

if this doesn't work come back and we'll provide further assistance :)

Configure the SNMP Trap destination of each managed node to send traps to the CIM7 server....

then you'll get events appearing in the CIM7 application uponn which you can perform tasks... email notification etc

If you require more help please post another message !

Cheers

Hi Dieselfreak,

You mentioned that "Configure the SNMP Trap destination of each managed node to send traps to the CIM7 server".

The configuration should be done at Windows's Services-> SNMP Services?

Pls advise.Thanks

Yes...

thats its it... configure the "Trap Destination" on each on the Compaq(HP) servers to send traps to the management server (CIM7) using the Services applet under the control panel.

Also remember that under the SNMP Configuration if you want to "secure" the configuration you may also want to add a list on IP addresses with which your servers will talk SNMP, remember to add the address 127.0.0.1 (loopback) this will allow the managed node to query it'self. This will stop user/hackers/genral browsers from querying your Servers using SNMP

Cheers
