Configuring Backup VAL board 6

We have a single VAL board with 95% of our Company's announcements on it. I have installed a second board off our s8720 at our HQ location and would like to back up all of the announcements to it. Thus if the primary fails, I can switch the announcements to the back up board (I know this will be a manual process).

I have backed up the announcements from the primary and when I try to restore them to the backup, the file transfer (via VAL manager) show complete, but the messages never appear on the backup board.

Any suggestions as to what I would need to do differently to get this to work?

Logs available if you need them for clarification.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You don't have to do a manual transition between the two val boards. You can create an announcement group, put both vals in the group and the announcements will play off of which ever resource is closer (in port network) and/or which ever val has the least amount of resources. If one val dies, then all the announcements will already be active and will play from the other board. As far as the copy problem goes, you should be able to move the announcements there individually. I don't use the "backup/restore" method with val manager. I find it much easier to deal with the "copy" method. Just copy the messages to a local directory on the computer running val manager and then copy the messages to the new board.

The weird part is that when I go to copy to the board it shows the announcements already there. But when I 'view announcement properties' or look on ASA, nothing shows.

Any suggestions.

manually FTP to the IP address of board, you will be in the /annc directory, do a "dir", and see if your files are there. Of course you will have to "enable" the board first with a login/pw.

Putting the announcments in an 'audio group" is a good idea, then the announcment source that is 'closest" to the caller will be used, possibly lowering the LAN/WAN bandwidth needed to play the announcments as well.

Latest installment:
- Used FTP to link to board. Found files listed. Deleted all announcement files

- Used FTP to upload copied announcement files from the directory I created on my PC

- closed FTP, opened VAL Manager

- Did 'View Announcement Properties' for this board. No files are showing.

- Did 'list integrated-annc-boards' no annoucements lised for board location

Am I missing a step somewhere?

Is there another way I can list thes

list config board xxxx for your new valboard. Make sure it shows 01 - 32 and 33 if you have a datamod assigned.
If the ports all show "u" you have a problem.

Make sure display integrated shows all your valboards.

Make sure that your license has RTU for all plugged in valboards.

Code:
display system-parameters customer-options Page 2 of 11
                                OPTIONAL FEATURES
IP PORT CAPACITIES USED

                             Maximum TN2501 VAL Boards: 10 2

list directory /annc board xxxx
list integrated xxxx

Response to last post:
list config board xxxx for your new valboard. Make sure it shows 01 - 32 and 33 if you have a datamod assigned.

ALL PORTS 01 TO 00 LISTED

Make sure display integrated shows all your valboards.
Both boards listed. The backup board is showing 0 (zero) for Num Annc.

Make sure that your license has RTU for all plugged in valboards.
Showing 2 of 10 used

list directory /annc board xxxx
lists wav files with todays date/time of FTP transfer

list integrated xxxx
"No records match the specified query options"
However when I do this for the primary board it lists the files and file info.

So I am getting positive results for everything but the list integrated query.

Ideas/Suggestions? (I have already had the board reset and reseated)

Thanks to ALL for the support, sorry I did not include that earlier. It is appreciated.

ok... even though I proofed that response I missed the following:

list config board xxxx for your new valboard. Make sure it shows 01 - 32 and 33 if you have a datamod assigned.

ALL PORTS 01 TO 33 LISTED

Make sure display integrated shows all your valboards.
Both boards listed. The backup board is showing 0 (zero) for Num Annc. The primary board is showing 60 for Num Annc

list config board and paste here. What FW are on the val boards.

Try unplugging your first valboard then call one of the announcement extensions and see if you get the .wav on the other board. Then list integrated xxxx for the 2nd board.

An extension number can only live in one place. The extension number has to exist before you can assign a name to the file. You have loaded the .wav files to the announcement board but the system doesn't know what to do with them.

If you change announcement and put the extension associated with the .wav file in an audio group, it will be associated with all boards in the audio group

Hopefully this is a summary of all the advice so far.

Lets say you have announcement number 1234 (file name of test.wav) on board 02a13

Lets also say you have a spare val board in 01b10
create an audio-group.

"add audio-group 1"

enter all the val board locations in this group.

do a "ch ann 1234"

change the field that says "integrated" to "G1"

just ignore the messages that come up, hit enter anyway (twice I think)

Now copy the wav file called test.wav onto board 01a10.

Now if you do a "lis integr" you will see the announcement appear on both boards, with the same announcement number.

Thank you to all who provided feedback on this subject. Great info, I will be back in office tomorrow and will be implimenting these suggestions.

here I am at this point:

create an audio-group.

"add audio-group 1" DONE

enter all the val board locations in this group. DONE

do a "ch ann 1234" DONE

change the field that says "integrated" to "G1" COULD NOT BE CHANGED, WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE GRP/BOARD TO G1, LEFT ANNOUNCEMENT TYPE AS INTEGRATED

just ignore the messages that come up, hit enter anyway (twice I think) DONE

Now copy the wav file called test.wav onto board 01a10. DONE

Now if you do a "lis integr" you will see the announcement appear on both boards, with the same announcement number. BINGO!

Thank you for all of the assistance.

One last question. If re-recording messages, how do you specify which greeting you are re-recording if they are sharing the extension number?

For clarity we have preferred to record via IP station.

Is this a case where it is best to just create the recording .wav on the local PC and then FTP'ing it up to both VAL boards?

Thanks,

yes

or add an announcement that is not in a audio group but on one valboard... record it, then copy the .wav to the boards, then put the extension in an audio group.

You cannot record with FAC an annc extension if it's in an audio group.
