Hi there,

I am looking for some help on getting an E1 ISDN PRI up and running. This PRI will be used to communicate with Call Manager.

My relevant running config for a Cisco 2650 1XM with a WIC module on slot 1 is below

#show version
Cisco IOS Software, C2600 Software (C2600-IPVOICE-M), Version 12.3(8)T4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

network-clock-participate slot 1
no network-clock-participate wic 0
network-clock-select 1 E1 1/1

isdn switch-type primary-net5
voice-card 1
!
!
controller E1 1/1
pri-group timeslots 1-31
!
!
interface Serial1/1:15
no ip address
no logging event link-status
isdn switch-type primary-net5
isdn incoming-voice voice
no cdp enable
!
!

BELOW is the status of the link:

#show isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5
ISDN Serial1/1:15 interface
dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5
Layer 1 Status:
DEACTIVATED
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = TEI_ASSIGNED
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0x00000000
Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 0
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0

Could it be that this is not cabled properly?

The router doesn't see any layer 2 traffic. It might as well not be plugged into anything. Are you plugging this into the PSTN or another phone system?

Many thanks for the reply. Yes this is going to the PSTN in France. Im wondering if I have the right module on it for E1 for voice.

Do you know if I need a specific module for voice? right now I have an E1 Module that came on the router. Also the E1 is cabled to an RJ45. The CD light not the back is green.

I also get the following

sspariaovip01#show controllers e1 1/1
E1 1/1 is down.
Applique type is Channelized E1 - balanced
Transmitter is sending remote alarm.
Receiver has loss of frame.
alarm-trigger is not set

You have no layer 2 communications. Either it isn't plugged in, the CSU DSU is not configured properly or is broken or the line hasn't been provisioned.

Do you need a special card? Yes, you need a VWIC for an E-1. I don't know what that is, but a quick scan of the VWics for your router on Cisco's website should tell you. Who is your reseller? You will need DSP resources to convert the E-1 voice into IP.

thanks for your help. This is an E1 from France Telecom. If this is a layer 2 issue the circuit is cabled properly, correct? Can the issue be caused by misconfiguration on the router or something on the network's side?

I am asking because I see the following:

Transmitter is sending remote alarm.
Receiver has loss of frame.

Regards
