When I go into Configure User Settings and check a user to have access to toolbar user preferences and docking/undocking, then logon as that user, the checkmarks are gone. Using Goldmine 5.7. This is only for some employees, not all. If I keep logging on back and forth between me and my employees, the computer asks if I want to shutdown, locks up and closes all my screens. I have to just hold the off button down to shut down the computer. I have run maintenance to start off with, thinking this would resolve the problem. What do I do to get it to allow this particular user to keep the preferences I (as Admin) have given him?

Thanks for your help, Janet Lyn

Is this the dbase or SQL version of GoldMine?

I know that there were some toolbar issues in early versions of 5.7. Try updating to the latest version through NetUpdate, if you haven't already. Keep in mind that if you use GoldSync that all remote users will need to be on the same version as the main system, so you'll need to update those, as well.

You could also check the user's .ini file to make sure that it is not set to Read Only.

Maintenance likely won't fix anything like this because it doesn't do anything with the users' .ini files.

The lockup problem is strange, though. Not sure why signing in/out of GoldMine would cause that.

It is the DBase version. The powers that be are not impressed with Goldmine so we only use it for email and contact information. No Goldbox, no Crystal reports, no update options. I tried once to get an update and it wanted me to buy a package to do so and I can't so I guess I'm stuck with the original. The .ini file was not Read Only. I finally took the individual's .ini file from a backup in May and copied it over the one giving us problems. It now has his toolbars like he wants them, but I am still unable to allow him permission to change his toolbars. If you think of anything else I would appreciate the advice. Janet Lyn

Try this: temporarily give him Master rights. Then, sign in as him, change the toolbar option, sign back out. Sign back in with a user with Master rights and turn the user's Master rights back off.

That should work. If not, let me know, and we'll try something else!

We're running version 6.0, and we still occasionally have toolbar issues. They have a tendency to disappear. It seems to be a common issue with a lot of our clients, as well.
