Hi,

I am new to cisco and this is my very first post.

I have inherited a 837 cisco router and would like to configure it.

At present I have four machines wired to my 2wire 2701 wireless modem/router:
a linux server (web), linux server (mail) & 2 winxp pro systems.

A further 3 laptops access the 2Wire wirelessly:
2 macs and a linux laptop.

I would like to attach the 837 but I am not sure where to put it or how to configure it.

When I say "not sure where to put it" I mean should I put it before the 2WIRE so the 837 would connect first to my ADSL (phone) line then the 2 wire into one of the fast ethernet ports on the 837, then maybe have the 3 other fast ethernet ports on the 837 filled with 3 of the systems presently wired to the 2WIRE and maybe leave the fourth wired system plugged into the 2WIRE ?

There are a number of ways it cold be organised.

Can someone help me with the config and topolgy?

Thanks

further progress:

The linux wired (10.0.0.1) and the linux wireless (10.0.0.3) both have access now to the internet.
Mac wireless both (10.0.0.6 & 10.0.0.7)have access now,,

Can't get the wired XP pc (10.0.0.9) to access the net. (even though it's hanging off the same hub as those that can access the net: 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2).

Should I start a new thread for this?

what command in Cisco lets me see the entire network?
(i can't access SDM or CRWS) so it will have to be CLI commands.

The 2Wire modem is now set up in bridge mode and working for 3 laptops (as stated above)

ok i worked it all out.

Thanks for the help vince and burt
your lifesavers

One last question vince... best info or links on firewall configuration?

I think you should really try to get the web-based GUI thing working - it will give you a very intuitive way to setup the firewall rules.
Otherwise, you will need to configure access lists and put them on your dialer interface. Have a read of this:

Thanks again for the link Vince.

I have finally installed SDM (I think I prefer tinkering with CLI commands). I will read all i can about the SDM though thankyou for your valued advice throughout.
