Configure 3Com 10BaseT PC card on RH linux 9?

Does any one know how to configure a 3Com 10BaseT PC card on RH linux 9. I have a toshiba laptop which does not have network port but has PC card to which I attached the dongle to connect the network cable to the laptop.But I cant get the network card to get detected on linux.Pls help.

What do you mean "a pc card"?
A PCMCIA / Cardbus card?
I think you'll find the problem is nothing to do with your network card, it's the interface to it that's the problem.

There is probably a module needed to support pcmcia card services that is needed. It's been a while so I don't recall it's name.

Since it's RH9, consider booting with the card in place and connected. If the boot sequence doesn't detect it, run 'kudzu' from command line to try an auto-detection.

How to fix it then.I installed fedora 4 and that plumbed up the interface but still no IP.it says check for cable even though the cable is attached.The log talks abt no IRQ present.

Did you give the interface an IP? Or are you expecting one to be allocated automatically by DHCP?

I don't want to insult your intelligence but we need to know about your IP address allocation system.
As Annihilannic rightly points out, you could have your IP address allocated by a server machine running DHCP or you could statically assign an IP address to the interface.
Could you explain to us what kind of network setup you have please?

Its DHCP enabled.( during the build i enabled it)

if you do "/sbin/ifconfig" do you get "eth0" there?

Yes I do get it.But no IP is assigned.No IRQ present for that nic.
