Hello all. We've recently had a internet T1 installed for a unsecured network that we're setting for visting vendors, salespeople, etc., which is in no way connected to our network. I've got a 2621, with 1 WIC that I inherited already configed for a T1. As a noob to router config, I thought pretty much all I'd have to do would be to change the IP info, and call it a day. Can someone take a look at what I've got so far and tell me what I need or need to add or subtract? Thanks in advance.

interface Serial0/0
ip address 209.234.138.242 255.255.255.252
encapsulation ppp
no fair-queue
service-module t1 timeslots 1-24
!
interface Ethernet0/1
ip address 66.162.43.17 255.255.255.248
no mop enabled
!
router igrp 1
redistribute connected
network 209.234.138.0

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 209.234.138.241

You would have to check with your ISP to verify the T1 configuration. You currently have it setup for PPP but it could be something else. Also you don't need to run IGRP on your serial interface with you already have a default route there.

Did that, they tell me to set it for ppp. I'll remove igrp.

Can you ping 209.234.138.241 from your router?

Is 66.162.43.17 your new public subnet assigned to you by your new ISP?

Nope, can't ping 209.234.138.241. The 66.162.43.17 is one of 5 usable IP's assigned to us.

If you can't ping that address, then you need to get on the phone w/ your ISP and verify the configuration.

do a show interface s0/0 and post the output.

show int s0/0
Serial0/0 is down, line protocol is down

Sounds like it could be a physical layer 1 problem. I'd check the wiring on the jack if it's been extended from the smart jack at the demarc

Nothing wrong at Layer 1, I'm coming straight off the smart jack on the NIU shelf.

The Alarm light should be on at all - you're going to have to get back on the horn with the ISP.

BW 1536 Kbit

This item should be 1544 not 1536.

1536 is ANSI robbed bit. Unless they are using ANSI...which is doubtful. Try pulling the board out of the NIU and bring down the circuit. Replace board and reload router and check again for status. I had this same thing happen and this fixed it for us. After that I read 1544 and the circuit came up. May or may not work for you but it does not cost anything to try.

Had the carrier troubleshoot it last night, and they did find some issues that they repaired. Right now, when I do a show int, I'm getting the interface is up, line protocol is down. I'm at another one of our locations right now, so I'll try re-seating the card in the NIU when I get back to the main location. Any other ideas?

Up/down at least says it sees a t-1 signal. You need to work with the ISP to see if they can loop the csu on the wic. You also need to verify the service module options.
Make sure it's set for b8zs/esf and clock is set to line.
A show service-module s0/0 should look like this

You did use a straight through cable from router to NIU right? A crossover cable might bring the interface up but will for sure not bring up the line.

Here is a copy of my T1 output:
Please note the difference in bandwidth. Still think this is causing your problem. Get your ISP to check it. Put a loopback plug in the NIU and have them go intrusive on the circuit.
