I have a MICS at this school and the conference room has a Polycom VTX 1000. I have it plugged in to an ATA and it is extension 251.
I cannot get the damn thing to do a 3 way conference call. I have the set programmed with no lines assigned, but access to Pool A. I have the Prime Line set as I/C.
I am attaching the instructions I have for an ATA to do Conference. I am just not sure exactly what I am using as LINK?? The LINK feature code is F71, but it is not working. I know the setting for the LINK timer is 600ms, is that correct? There could not be a more convoluted way to perform a simple task such as a 3 way conference call than this. Embarrassing to have to explain this procedure to the customer.
Help!!

Make sure you have at least 2 intercom buttons assigned.

The manual you provided is a dinosaur...is it for the software level you have?
If so then re-read the first paragraph as no mention of 2 outside lines.

Link on an ATA explained.

Conf(=Flash) button = Link
You have an analog Polycom so slightly different as you have no Feature button.

Feature on an Analog device = Flash *

So to do a Feature = Conf *
To do a link = Conf * 71

If you were to use the carriers conference feature (3 way call) then when on a call press Conf * 71 and dial number.

To conference with 2 Norstar lines instead...

Conference Call
Link *3
Allows you to establish a three-way conference between yourself, one external call
and one intercom call, or two intercom calls. Line pool access allows you to
establish a conference between yourself and two external calls.
To establish a conference call:
1. Make or answer the first call. (may require 9 for outside line)
2. Press Conference then 2 This automatically places the first call on hold.
3. Make or answer the second call.
4. Press Conference * 3 to complete the conference.
Note: If the second call is busy, press Link 2 to return to the first call.

Conference Hold
Allows you to put the two conference parties on hold. The held callers are still
In conference.
To put the conference on hold:
1. Press Conference 2 to put the two conference parties on hold.
2. Press Conference 2 to restore the three-way call.

Conference Consultation (Split Conference)
Allows you to put one party on hold and consult with the other party.
To consult:
1. Press Conference # 3 to split the conference.
2. Press Conference 2 to alternate between calls.
3. Press Conference * 3 to restore the three-way call.
Disconnecting One Party
Allows you to disconnect one party in a three-way conference call.
To disconnect one call:
1. Press Conference # 3 to put one caller on hold. You are connected with the
other call.
2. Replace the handset.
3. Press Conference 2. You are connected with the caller
on hold.

I only have 1 intercom programmed, pretty sure. I will change that. Thanks. And I will take these new instructions. Yes, those are dinosaur instructions. It's a dinosaur phone system.

I got it working, thank you. But you did not give me an answer on the LINK TIME ms. Also there is a setting on the Polycom for that AND on the Nortel. Default is 600ms. Do I need to tweak that? I realized that the CONF button (flash), on the phone was intermittently not working, and also I did not have 2 intercoms programmed.

What software level do you have?
And are you conferencing two Norstar lines or using the Carriers feature which uses only the current line?
As stated link is only for the latter.

I do not know the software level, I will find out next time I go there. 2 Norstar lines. They have a board meeting tonite and need the conference phone. Help!

on your info above, the first conference call instructions, between 2. and 3. it should say PRESS CONFERENCE *71, otherwise you do not get 2nd dial tone to make your second call.

You did not answer this question
"And are you conferencing two Norstar lines or using the Carriers feature which uses only the current line?"

Instructions are for Norstar conferencing and not carriers 3 way calling.
