I have recently obtained a 3700 POS Screen version 3.2.27.598 and I am trying to connect to a main computer via ethernet cable. I have connected everything but it shows that I am not connected. I think this is caused becuase I need to enter a password on the POS screen. Is there any way to get around this, or obtain the password.

Just to clear it up, you're trying to get a Micros workstation to connect to a Micros server right?

What kind of workstation is it, Eclipse or WS4?
Can you see the workstation on the network or at lest ping it from the server?

yes.. I am trying to connect to the POS database server

I have been racking my brain on this.. I have tryed everything to connect to the server and I cant

I cant see the network and when I ping through DOS it is failed... by the way it is a direct connection

I'm going to start from the begining. I don't know your background so don't be upset if some of the stuff is pretty obvious. By direct connect I'm assuming you mean cat5 without a hub/switch.

Make sure the data cable is cross-pinned correctly and that it works to connect 2 other pc's.

Check these in the configurator's devices area.

Network Nodes - make sure the workstation in in the list and the workstation type is 'Workstation4"

Devices - make sure its in the list as a workstation linked to the correct device

User Workstations - It has to be in the list, linked to a Revenue Center. Make sure the RVC its linked to has a sign-in screen assigned. If you're not in demo mode check the control panel to make sure you're licensed.

Go to Windows services and make sure the Micros CAL service is set to automatic and that its running.

That's the general setup stuff. Once its all confirmed/done:

When you boot up the workstation you should see the following:

The blue Micros screen with a red status indicator
Cal startup
Win CE splash
3700 POS loader
3700 POS Operations splash screen

How far does it get?

Since this is the first time running it should stop at the POS loader and prompt you for the server to run off and the workstation to run as.

BTW - Are there other WS4's running off this server?

Pat

I have gone throught the basic set up and still no response, btw no offense taken (thanks for your help). This is a single workstation that connects (not at the moment) to a single database (database does not have internet). I have tried everything and no luck.

What happens when you boot up the workstation? I've had WS4's delivered for 3700 installations that are configured for 9700's. You should at least get to the 3700 POS loader if it's configured right.

If you are direct connect you need a crossover cable not a straight Ethernet patch cable.

thank you for the advice, but I do have a crossover cable installed... again thanks for your help
