I've recently discovered the new Automatic discount feature and have been attempting to use it to simplify many of the specials we run. I've managed to get several of them to work after some tinkering, lots of reading through the docs (which seem to be missing bits of info on this), and help from the forum.

My latest issue regards condiments not triggering auto-discounts. I've checked the boxes for 'Auto-discounts apply to condiments' and have Auto-discounts turned on in RVC transactions.

Our setup is as follows:
Ring in burger
Ring in condiments:
Patty size (multiple options, one of which we give $2 off on certain days)
Burger temp
Side choice

I have the discount set as automatic, correct periods set, amount as $2, checked 'amount' and 'item discount', currently have all itemizers selected, and have tried multiple rule setups to no avail:
Item price sub with a trigger as our burger MI set, award set as the patty size, etc
Item price sub with a trigger as our patty size MI set, award set as the patty size, etc
Item price sub with a trigger as our patty MI set, award set as burger MI set, etc
Combo pricing with burger and patty size as triggers

I've tried to manually activate the discount and it either says 'no discount found' or 'discount not allowed'

Honestly I'm stumped. Does the condiment have to be the last rang in or is there a setting I'm still missing?

edit: we currently have the patty size as a priced condiment with a -$2 price but it's not ideal as we've had to add another condiment MI to use for the burgers that the special doesn't apply to. Works well so far as it keeps the steps minimal to apply the discount but still requires the employees to be trained to remember to enter food correctly

The most thorough documentation on discounts is in the version 4.3 RMF.
You will find in there;
􀂊 Condiments. Priced condiments are optionally discounted if their
parent item is discounted. Condiments alone cannot be discounted.
What I think you are trying to achieve can not be done the way you are approaching it. I may be wrong. Have never tested it in depth.
I will play around with it later this weekend if time.
The options I would look at are;
A menu item for each burger size.
Or use menu levels to change your burger size / price.
Or make the burger a combo item.
Any of those three methods should work correctly with your discount.

Thank you for the reference material.
I see the part where it says condiments can only be discounted if the parent item is discounted which works fine for total price discounts but not in this situation unfortunately.

We may have to just stay with how we've been handling it and continuing to train new staff to use the appropriate options for the given specials.
Hopefully that's a functionality they'll add in the future.
