Hi,
I hope you can help me. I recently had a power outage at my home and now when I power up the computer nothing happens. The fan and power appears to be working but it appears it doesn't even load the cmos. Is my motherboard hosed? Please help me if you can. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give to troubleshoot.

Can you see your hard drive and it's contents from a boot Cd or not? I had this issue with a new PC and hard drive that suffered a power surge and a spike hit the hard drive which caused it to write back and corrupted all of the media which we ended up having to order a new hard drive.

Try disconnecting all the devices except the hard disk and see what happens then when you try to power up.

If still no joy, take out all of your cards except the video card and leave just one stick of RAM (if you have multiple ones), so that the all you have attached to the PSU is the mobo (complete with 1xRAM and video card) and your HDD, then power up and see what happens.

If still no joy, I would suggest another PSU if you have a spare. A PSU fan running is not a guarantee that it's working :-( If it's still not powering up, you could be looking at a dead mobo, which suggests to me that your existing PSU is not all it could be.

Hi Everyone,
First let me thank all of you so much for the quick responses and your help. While waiting for responses to my post, I started reading through other posts and responses that were related to similiar problems. I came across one response that suggested to try unplugging the power cord to the outlet for about 5 seconds. I have a expensive power surge protector that my computer is plugged into so I first turned of the power surge protector and then unplugged the power surge protector from the wall outlet. After plugging everything back in and restarting my computer everything worked like a charm. Man, I was dreading to go through troubleshooting the problem and scared that I would lose all my information. Thank goodness for surge protectors. Thanks again for the knowledgable people in this forum as well. I really appreciate how people are so willing to share and provide assistance.
Take care and thanks again.
Danny
