Good day all, first and foremost i do really appreciate this site and its efforts to help others / one another.

Anyway, my problem started a cuple of days ago. I have a compac pentium 2 computer.with windows 2000 profesional oper system. when i press the power button so as to start up, the compac screen comes on, then a messsage ' press any key to view option rom messages '. It then starts to boot, after the win 2k screen start up window is done, a blue screen appears and the comp shuts down and statrts the boot process again. I have tried to boot on all possible options using the f8 key, but problem still continues. I really dont know what happened or what i can do to have it running again.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did it come with a 2k install disk - or a restore to factory condition disk from compaq?

If 2k install - you could try a repair reinstall - (need to reapply service packs/windows updates afterwards). I know Compaqs do their own thing - so don't know if this is an option for you.

It came with win 98..i upgraded to win 200 professional. With your option, i need the install disk, of which i dont have at this time.

any history - ie, did it just start or had you changed any hardware/software, virus, major crash? Were you patched up to date (nachi or msblast virus?). Is there any error message(s) on the blue screen?
Without clues as to what might have caused probelm & no 2k install CD, I'm a bit stuck for ideas.

One thing you could try - download the 4 floppy bootdisk set for 2k from (alternative way to start an install - but they will also allow you to get into recovery console, without the install CD. Once in recovery console, try running chkdsk

you will need to access dos prompt using a startup disk. a 98 one will do

once access to an a: prompt has been acheived you need to locate and read bootlog.txt, stored in C: directory.(this is automatically generated if boot failure occurs).

1. from a: prompt type in "cd c" to access c drive. then type in "dir". loctae bootlog.txt and read by either
a. typing in "edit bootlog.txt"
b. "copy bootlog.txt a:" this copies to a: drive to be read on another pc.
2. Hopefully you will see message here of boot failure.
Post back here!
If a crucial file is corrupt you will need WIN2k disk to repair!

eg of crucial files NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, BOOT.INI, IO.SYS and also config.sys and autoexec.bat may have a role
