I have a win98 machine on a network. We made some network changes (i.e. ip address on the machine, and some other routing issues) at any rate now the computer boots up and bypasses the logon screen and I have to click on Start and Logoff to log back in. I have Microsoft Windows Network as my default in the network properties. What do I need to do to allow it to give me the logon screen when i boot up???? thanks a lot.. Keith Buchanan

Check the Control Panel, Network, most likely needs to be modified for the new IP Address, etc. info. Did you mean Start, Login rather than Start, Logoff?

Did you select 'Client for MS Networks' in the 'Primary Network Logon:' box in Network/Configuration?

No i did not mean start and log in. The computer bypasses the login screen and logs in as BLANK... ie the username is not there.... i have to choose log off to get the box back to login as the correct user....

I did choose MS Networks as the primary login. This system is connecting to a Windows NT 4.0 server and everything in the networks area on the workstation is correct.

Like I said the unit logs in fine manually and all network components are there. but something is preventing it from showing me the Windows NT Server logon box at start up... I also have LOGON to WINDOWS NT SERVER selected in the Network properties and have the name of the Domain server in the box as well. any more ideas

Another 'Do you have' response...Under properties of 'Client for MS Networks' do you have 'Initiate session under Windows NT domain' and the name of the domain entered in the box?

yep sure do and thus when i click on log off to get the login box up the correct domain name is listed... i am beginning to think that possibly the computer has a username of blank as the default user with no password and thus logging in with blank rather than a real username and requesting a corresponding password Keith Buchanan

Have you tried removing all network components and reinstalling?

Go to Start>Find and type in *.pwl and hit enter. This will bring up all users with a password. If none found, you'll need to create a user.

yes i have removed all networking components and reinstalled, as for searching for the user, i will do that but if i can force it to log off and then log in the user and pass are their or i would have a problem then?? i will let you know if there are multiple users and i will delete all but the correct one and see what happens then Keith Buchanan
