Just had this happen, my 2000 pro system will not save files as anything but an untitled bitmap. I have tried to fix in every way. Please nelp!

have you recently installed any software, I have had this problem occur and reoccur when I install realplayer or windows media player and even quicktime, alot of software these days change the default formats, if you have installed new software chech the properties for them and see if this is the culprit. Good luck

Do you mean all kind of files or only pictures?

About saving pictures U need a filter for other kind of file extensions. Maybe U uninstalled a media program or picture editing program.

No this is when I am in explorer and I want save files by right clicking and all I have is untitled bitmap as an option isntead of it having the file name of the picture and the file type

I had the same problem too, but only in certain websites that display the pictures by use of javascript (if you have this on every site, then the following probably will not solve it for you).

If for example you go to and try to save the picture on that page, you will get the annoying untitled.bmp situation.
If you take a look at the source of that page (Go to View-->Source), you will see that the line responsible for showing the picture on the page is:
<img width=400 height=496 src= border=0><br>
instead of the usual src=
So this is just a &quot;problem&quot; on the way the site is built and has nothing to do with your computer.

The workaround I have used to save it directly as jpg with the original filename is to copy from the source file of the page the source part of the picture, (in our case this is and paste it into the addressbox of a new explorer window. This will run the script and take me directly to the picture, with the real name of it shown in the IE addressbox ( in our case) which I can the copy and paste into yet another window to save the picture normally.

A lot easier would be to just save all your pictures as bitmap (taking care to change the save name everytime to avoid overwriting any) and then convert them to jpg, giving them your own name, using a simple picture viewer such as irfanview.

I hope that helped

Dimitrios.

PS. I forgot to mention that you have to be a (free) member of the Pathfinder &quot;formula1&quot; group to view this particular picture, but as I don't know of any other sites causing the same problem, I included it as reference.

I had the something happen to me, I always deleted my Temporary Internet Files and under the Tools menu, Advance Tab, Restored Defaults. Then reboot, that always fixed it for me. Sometimes bad web sites will change your defualts where you can't save pictures and if you are downloading alot of pictures the Temporary Internet File folder gets full where you can't open any more to save. Tell me if that helps!
