Hi All

I have a virus in my computer and it is running so slow. I still have Windows 98. I have a message saying my system is very low of resorses. When I check the taskmanager - there are many processes runing some are called "uploer" or something like this and a number of ",unknown>" ones. I have a message on my desktop that says "warning your computer is infected"
I ran a virus scan and it found a trojon horse virus, I have deleted it but there is no change.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Tee.

Most slowdowns are adware or spyware related. Get adaware from lavasoft and spybot search and destroy, and Microsofts Antispyware beta, and use those. Use google to find them.

Microsoft AntiSpyware will not run on Windows 98, try Spybot Search and Destroy instead

spybot, ad-aware, and an online web scanner (trend micro, etc) is the place to start. note you may have to scan in safe mode to completely remove some of the problems. dont forget hijack this also to remove other hooks to bad stuff. if you need more details, post back, there is an FAQ here for removal as well as a site for analyzing hijack this logs.

also, if you have any suspicious programs in the control panel, add/remove programs (search bars, system optimizers, etc) remove those first.

Many thanks to everyone that has responded to my post. I have been too busy at work to try anything yet but tonight I am. Will let you know how I go and what success I have.

Thanks again.
Tee

If you do run HijackThis!, don't be afraid to post the log file here or to use this site to assist in figuring out what entries do and do not belong.

In addition, never never never never never never never, remove any entry that these programs find unless you can first identify what it is (or, in some cases, if you cannot identify it at all). These programs are not guarenteed to not find something you need/want and attempt to remove it.

Hi everyone

just an update on my virus problem. I managed to get online and went to Trendmicro.com and did a on-line scan. It found 6 problems - Trojan Small AHZ - Trojan Dloader.OH -Trojan Puper.M - Trojan Small.AHZ - HTML Zerolin.B - Trojan Samll AHZ. There was 1 file that it could not access. The only option I had was to delete the files which I did. I restarted my computer and was to go back in and manually delete in file hmge.exe my the Windows Temp folder (couldn't before because I was too low on system resources) but now I have a fatal exception error with Explorer and I can not access anything on the desktop.

Does anyone have a possible solution?

Thanks again.

Hi eneryone

Just an update on this post. I had no luck removing the virus and ended up wiping my hard disk - now I have all sorts of problems as I never got the installation disk etc for the motherboard. More work.....

Thanks for eveyone's repsonse. Much appreciated. Tee.
