Hi all - My computer screen will suddenly start jumping up and down, making it very difficult to read any thing on the screen. It does it on line and also while I am using Word Perfect. If I "wait it out" (this is typically the time I am frantically searching your forums for advise) -it will stop. I am a total novice with the computer...sigh. Please help me...trying to read the screen while it is doing that makes me feel a little drunk...if this continues, I may just take it up (drinking, I mean). Thanks in advance for any and all help...

Only other option I can think of is stop feeding your computer so much sugar.

I'd just check around to see if someone has a CRT they'll give you, or you can find one at a yard sale, if they have those where you're at... also you can check Good Will/Thrift stores, as they usually have old used ones... if that's what you're looking for.

If you can afford to spend at least $75 (maybe) to $100 (definite), go online and get a nice new LCD:

One example: $99 and free shipping:

If CRT, give it a whack on top (disclaimer, if you break it, don't blame me).

Belive me or not, I've seen this used by CRT manuafcturers to allign them before shipping.

Most people spend their time on the "urgent" rather than on the "important."

Oh yeah, there is also the Degauss button/menu option in your screen settings. It wouldn't hurt to give that a try as well.

Darryn, you coat is awaiting collection, pick it up on the way to the door.

Well, [blue]bigrue[/blue], did any of the suggestions work/help? I'd tend to use twine and not any bungie material for darryncooke's idea, since the bungie cords could allow too much movement.

See, now I was going to be a smartie and say "Move the monitor from on top of the washing machine"... but I thought "Nah....." until I read some of the other posts. lol

You should get a different one, too... it looks like your "Y" and "o" keys aren't working properly, and your shift keys are broken. ;)

If you have an opticl mouse, it could be this, next time try lifting it off the desk to see i it stops.

I mean lift the mouse of the desk.

Actually, that made me think of something, John08, seriously!

I know with some computers, if the power supply of the tower/case/box gets close to the monitor (CRT only), that can make the screen jump around.

If it's an OEM computer, such as Dell, HP, etc, then it's quite likely this could be the case, b/c they use very cheap power supplies. You could simply try moving the computer away from the monitor if it's less than say 6 to 12 inches from the monitor.

I read of a case were the author's crt was behind the elevator shaft (unknow to him until he got a floor plan). The DC motors in the elevator drove the crt bezerk.

either he got the shaft and placed him at the TOP or BOTTOM floor where the motors are located at...

but I agree that strong magnetic fields can screw up the monitor...

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

also look at desk fans... they make CRT's 'jump' and speakers too... Pretty much everything with a magnet or a motor..

failing that put on that song by 'house of pain' and just go with it!

I used to have a problem with my old CRT where a speaker sub was next to the CRT and it changed the colour(green ish) the closer the sub got. (sub had a built in supply)
