Hello Everyone. I have an unusual problem that I hope someone can help me with. I have been shutting down my computer at work at the end of the day. Beginning a couple of weeks ago, one and a half to two minutes after I shut down it starts up all by itself. It is definitely shut down and not just asleep. It has shut down normally prior to this and I don't know what to do about it. How can I shut down and keep it shut down? Is this harmful to the computer?

Diane, i assume your computer is connected to a network, is the wake-on-lan feature enabled?? This could be the cause. To turn your computer off and stop it starting up, on the back of the computer, turn off the power supply, or the switch at the wall socket. Please let us know what you think of posts, feedback is always appreciated as this will help to further our knowledge as well.

All that's required for evil to suceed is for good men to do nothing.

Nowadays, wake-on-lan isn't the only Bios configurable wakeup. Some motherboards check particular IRQ's. Any activity on that IRQ will wake up your comp. If this is a corporate enviroment, you may want to check with your IT/IS guys. They may have it set to wake up for updates or software packages that are pushed to your machine after hours.

We have some new machines around here that were doing the same thing. There are various 'wake-up events' set in the bios that can be enabled/disabled. Again, if in the corporate place, need to check with IT guys to make the changes. 'If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving isn't for you.'

somtime motherboard have an option to power on from keyboard where any two keys can start your computer its just amater of changing jumpers. of a gard or cleaning lady could be taking advatiges to find out their are devicis to track use of your keyboard using the ps/2 connectors and gives a readout through notepad
