ok thx for all the help on the previous posts i made about no power on new computer...i got the one working perfectly, then i worked on the next 1, i got the Fan to go then screwed MOBO down and connected a few items, now when i start it the fan looks like it moves ever so slightly then stops...no beeps no nothing, i have tryed clearing cmos again and took all other wires off back to bare board but nothing helps...any tips guys and gals ? someday maybe i can do this all in 1 shot without all the probs lol

Try unmounting the mobo if you haven't already. (you may have a short or something is torqued out of position. If that does not help try a different fan.

already tryed taking mobo back out with no success...if i had an extra fan i would try that but i dont :( lol
thx for help i will keep pluggin away...1 out of 2 systems aint bad :)

The fan should spin at 5V try to power it from a 5 to 12 vdc source (maybe a 9v battery (for a short time))

By the way, last time I looked you hadn't indicated in the other thread that you got anywhere and how you did it...
posting back with the details would be a simple thank you to those who tried to help. (won't hurt your rep 'round here, either, IF you ever have to come back)

So, these were bare-bones purchases with the CPU already mounted (and probably tried?)?

The fan moving is when the POST fires up the power and then it's stopping at the next phase...which is usually the CPU.
BUT, if that fan won't run the board usually won't go further (we're talking the CPU fan, right?)
You DO have another fan...it's on the working machine...and ya' cabbage from wherever you can when you adopt the "trapped rat" posture (there's some zen to this, huh?)

ok heres the deal i pulled the mobo back out and used the plastic type mounting screws and cleared the cmos then added 1 item at a time and she worked gr8...my theory is that i turned the metal screws to hard and shorted the board out.
Now as for the second puter that i built, what i did was tryed switching the power supply wires from the system i knew was running and it worked...with testing the switch wires and that i came to the conclusion that the power supply is the problem, now i am not sure if maybe the tightening of the metal screws to much shorted something out and caused the power supply to malfunction or if the power supply was screwed right from the get go...i guess this is a learning process :) Anyway TYVM for all the help everyone much appreciated !

IF you had to resort to the plastic mounts there's indeed the possibility that the board shorted to the case with the other standoffs. There are also sometimes provided washers with the hardware to preclude this happening.
I usually spend enough time with the manual to feel
confident I know what to do when going into action.
Just my method, of course, as we all develop different habits.
A geek friend of mine is lucky beyond belief (besides being very experienced) and he never consults the manual unless it doesn't work and the reason isn't revealing itself to him. I at least like/need to see what the mfr. has to say.

unfortunately there was no manual included in the hardware i purchased, and the online manuals for each motherboard gave no direction too mounting :( anyway least i got er all figured out...thx again :)
