Hi everyone

I have a big problem with my computer. I have windows XP professional on my computer and I upgrated it to SP2. It didn't ask to reboot so I did that myself. since than my computer doesn't do anything. when I start up the windows screen appears and then it reboots. Starting up from CD doesn't work either. and when I try to start up in safe mode or in last good configuration it also reboots. Can anybody help me?

It would help to find the exact error causing the reboot. On system start hit F8 early and often, then use the arrow keys to select the Disable automatic restart on system failure.

STOP: C0000135 {unable to locate component}
This application has failed to start because WINSRV was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem.

But how can I re-instal this file? because the computer does not reboot from cd

well I've downloaded the file but I don't know what to with it.
after the blue screen with the error nothing happens. so how can i put this file on my computer?

To boot from CD you need to make a BIOS change in the boot order of devices. Set the CD Drive as the first device. Some notebook computers let you determine this at startup by pressing F12.

Step 1: Use Recovery Console to remove Windows XP SP2
Remove Windows XP SP2 from your computer by using Recovery Console. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, and then see the “Use Recovery Console” section:
875350 How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer:
Step 2: Remove T.V. Media or install Critical Update 885523
Use one of the methods in the "Workaround" section to remove T.V. Media or to install the Critical Update 885523 compatibility fix. For more information about installing Critical Update 885523, see the "Resolution" section.

Step 3: Reinstall Windows XP SP2

Sorry, but it still doesn't work. the CD is first but no reboot from CD. any other options?

sorry to bother you again. I've tried to download the startup disk of the microsoft page. but wen I want to save it on disk it says that the disk is too small.
is it because I have downloaded it with windows 98?

Which disk is too small, the hard disk you are trying to store the download to, or the floppy disks you are trying to create bootup images?

the floppy disks are too small. tried to save it on HD and then send to floppy, but that doesn't work either

The file you download needs to be run to create floppy images, it itself is not copied to the floppies.

It worked.
thank you so much for your help.
I have I small question left. When I start up the computer it takes a long time before the screen: press control alt delete comes. is there something I can do about it?

Disable in Device Manager any unused network connections.

I've tried to uninstall sp2 in several ways, because it's still in the software. I even resored my computer to the time i installed sp2.
Now I have another problem. I can't open internet explorer. Computer says that it can't find the server or that there's a dns error. any sugsestions for this problem

. You cannot uninstall SP2 because you did an integrated install to begin with.

. There can be several reasons for your DNS errors. Start with the easiest repair:

Start, Run, netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot.

it worked. thank you very much for your help

Much thanks for the info also.

Co worker's kids plowed their XP SP2 and system went completely nuts. Took a while to get around Dell's boot, but you info put it right back on track.

The floppy boot for recovery bites though. Was there a boot cd method (for next time)?

Tx,
