Hi,

I just installed Windows 2000 Server on a Compaq Presario 5170 but everytime I go through Start->Shutdown->Shutdown, it shuts down and then an hour later or so, it turns itself on again. I've checked the modem and NIC settings for WOL but nothing was configured there for a wake up. I also checked the Power Options in the Control Panel and there was nothing there that would wake up the computer like that. Hibernation is disabled as well. This never happened before when it used to have Windows 98 and Windows XP Professional. It started happening after I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

Did you check WOL options in the bios? Disable it there. Jim

There is no WOL option in the BIOS, nor is there any APCI option. There's nothing in the BIOS except "Power Management = Enable" but that's about it.

Anybody else got any suggestions or tips on how to fix this problem?

Did you try disabling power management in the bios? Jim

Yes disable power management in the bios,
and disable all settings in windows too it you haven't
yet...

Well it seems to stop turning itself on by itself but it still doesn't power off when it shut down the computer. Oh well.. I'll just deal with it. Thanks for all the help.
