hey, i have this modem that I can't identify but has a rockwell rcv336acf/sp chipset. The problem is that the two computers i've tried installing it in will not boot when the modem is fisrt inserted into the isa slot. They simply hang on the splash screen. Both have win98se freshly installed and no problems with detecting other modems. Any help is definitely appreciated.

It's a 33.6 modem, and probably has jumpers on it (or dip switches) to set the com port and IRQ.
If the ones set conflict with ones already on the system(s), you won't get anywhere.
You need to find out what com and IRQ the jumpers (dips) are set to, and either change them to settings that are not used on the computer, or disable the com and IRQ on the computer, so the modem can use them. Cheers,
Jim

Well, I rechecked the jumpers and that was in fact the problem. Thanks for your help Jim.
