I have installed Windows XP and when I access my Pioneer DVD-Rom drive, the computer locks up! I have installed the Power DVD 4.0 ( to no avail). Any help would be appreciated!
Could be so many things! software being the most obvious, but you say that you have tried differant DVD programs Hmmmmm!
Maybe hardware, Two smaller power supply? roms peak power use is on initial spin up, and can caurse locking up.
Does it freeze used as a normal rom drive without any DVD software loaded? Sorry this is all a bit vague, just a train of thought. Martin
Hi Martin,
Thanks for the quick response. The answer to your question is ...yes, it locks up trying to play any cd.
My System:
AMD K62 3D Now (350mhz)
256 mb ram
64 meg G Force-2 Video card
250 watt power supply
I know that the processor is slow, min reccomended is 300mhz. This is very frustrating, hour after hour trying to fix this problem, (all help welcome!)
Me again!
Is it on it's own or shared IDE?
Master or slave?
If shared then what with?
If shared then try swopping them over, Master and Slave.
Take it off the hard drive cable if it's on it.
Other than that, take it back as faulty! Martin
OK bud, your comp is very underpowered for XP, if you have too many progs starting up, that's the reason your dvd-rom locks up, there's also issues with some of Creatives software. Maybe if your drive is old (like very very old!) your only option is to upgrade the drive... I know it is bad bud, but when I used to doubleboot between Win2k and Me, I used to have to disable my scanner for 2K and my IDE controller for ME, It's just nuts! Try to find updated drivers too.
