I have an external ATA2 set up and working on my CICS, and want to use it to dial from contact management software on my PC using the modem. No problem doing that, but how can I automatically transfer the call to my desk set (7316e)? I don't want to add an analog set and dial flash codes every time. Can I do this with system programming and/or add dial strings on the PC and not have to use TAPI?

Thanks, any help appreciated.

transfering from analog(ata) to any ext (other ata or digital set)is done the same way

hookflash/link *70 ext #

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure this solves my problem. If I understand what you're saying, I would have to use an analog extension also connected to the ATA to dial the flash code after the call is dialled by the PC. I don't want another phone on my desk and I need an automatic process; otherwise it is easier to just dial manually than xfer every call!

Is there any way to add a hook flash to the dial string on the PC after the call has been placed? Can't find anything about this. Or, can some system feature such as a hotline be used to autmatically transfer the call to my desk set?

Thanks again, Greg.

it depends on the software you are using to make the call over the modem
if the callmanager has the ability to transfer you will just need to put in the hookflash *70 in the software

another way to do it (maybe)
is after the call is made in the dialing string put a hookflash *2 after the number ,which will put the call on hold ,and you can pick it up on the desk set(you will need to have line appearances of the line you will be using.

again this depends on the capabilities of the call manager you are using

the last way that i can think of (more money)
is to get a cta 100 it comes with personal call managerand will dial from the desk phone thought the tapi functions

this option does work well

check out the cti options

Why don't you use a cta 100 hooked up in line with your set and a null modem cable connected to computer. This will allow you to use your address book on the computer to dial phone numbers via your set.

Thanks for your recommendation. The CTA100 looks like just the thing.

Unfortunately, it seems to present problems of its own. For starters, it appears to be discontinued? I found one for sale on eBay but it has no software or documentation. And they use RS-232 ports, which most PCs don't have anymore. Mine doesn't and I don't want to add a kludgy USB/RS-232 converter to my laptop -- already went down that route for my PDA and it was a pain to find one that works well.

So, I'm going to try experimenting with having the modem dial and embed commands in the dial string to transfer the call after dialling. No problem with dialling; just use:

ATDT9,<telephone number> ---> means Attention, Dial, Tone, get line, pause

The modem will stay on the line at that point. It gets harder now. I've tried adding:

!*70,21<directory number>H0 ---> means Stay in Command Mode, Flash hookswitch (Link), transfer call, pause, hang up

This part doesn't work. I'll keep experimenting and post the results if I can get it working.

Thanks everyone for your help, and best regards, Greg.

You can still get CTI's. Try Paragon Communications in MD. Tell Shauna I said hi.

Make sure you get the latest sw they've got. The last one I got shipped with 1.2 sw, and I had a hell of a time getting the right sw to run on XP.

Thanks, again, netwt!
