This question has been brough up before, after using IE if you try to start FPW it causes the computer to freeze/lock-up.

Well, its not just with IE.

I have recently switched to using Mozilla. And the probelm exists when using it.

So it seems that for some reason using IE or Mozilla creates an environment which causes FPW to lock the computer.

To me it seems like a problem with FPW, to whcih a patch should be issued - just like they did with the "divide by 0" problem.

If anyone knows of a patch, please let me know.

If there isn't one, then can everyone who has experienced this problem just respond to this thread by just saying "me too" or something to that effect.
This way when I email MS and inform them of this problem and request they issue a fix I can say that this problem is an issue for many people.

A simple test for this thus:
Turn on your computer.
Use a web browser for an hour or so, and then start FPW and boom - the computer locks up.

You can confirm it is a browser problem by rebooting your computer and refrain from using a web browser. YOu can go for days and days opening and closing FPW and other non-web browser based apps with no problems. But then start a web browser, use it for an hour or so, start FPW and boom - lock up!

Weird. My machine is a Win98.

Maybe the problem doesn't happen in XP?
If you will, try again but leave the browser up.

Just for reference, here's another thread that dealt with this problem:
thread182-53948

And maybe this one:
thread182-463203

Geoff and Tamar,
Thanks for your tries. Its apparent that this problem doesn't exsist in XP.

What about you Win9x users out there?
can any of you Win9x users try the little experiment?

It is looking like it might be an OS bug.

Also, could someone with ME, 2000, and NT give it a shot as well?

Thanks!

I can vouch for things working fine in Win 2000, Netscape & IE6, with FP2.6D, FP2.6W, VFP6 & VFP7.

Good Luck,

On Windows 98SE it would "FREEZE" after using applications such as IE, Netscape, Word, etc.. But not everytime.

Went to Win XP computer. Problem disappeared completely.

if this ends up being a win9X issue, considering both os and app are over 6 years old don't look to MS for any "patch" I performed the test on several os's and do not see the issue. Are you loading any fll or declare any functions in DLL's or making any API calls in your app? A quick test would be to create a fox26 exe that just opens and closes a screen then exit's and try your experiment see if you still lock, if not some other experiments would be. Does this happen when you launch from development environment after browsing for 1 hour? or just with compiled exe if it is just the compiled exe I have already pepered my startupCode.prg with "save to file1.mem" then "save to file2" at several poins in the code then delete any file?.mem then run the experement see how far the app gets this could help narrow down where the real issue might be.
