I re-installed the Emachines computer I bought 3 months ago.
Every time I start the computer, the system says found new hardware, they are "USB Devices".

In 'my computer', it displays 4 extra 'removable' disks. H:\, I:\, J:\, K:\.

I try the CD attached to the computer, no dirvers for them --- actually I don't like those extra disk driver in my computer. I already have C:\, D:\, E:\, F:\, G:\.

I don't need the extra USB which are not actually exists --- it says 'eM bay reader USB device'.

Tried to un-install the drivers for them ---- They disappear for now, but next time when I re-start, they display again.

Who can help me? Thanks!

Does you emachine have the memory readers showing in the front? The slots that different types of memory fit in from camera's.

If so that is your other drives that are showing.

I agree with Igebhart that those extra drive letters are for a memory card reader. You could check out eMachines web site for drivers.

Thanks! There is a slot in front of the machine. But it is covered with a sticky paper since the day I purchasing the machine.

I guess this slot is for something but I have no idea. So...thie one slot will cause 4 drive logos? Say, "removable" disk H,I,J & K in the expolorer window?

I tried the eMachines webside, no drivers for my computer W2888 desktop computer.

It seems that I have to try somewhere else to find out the memory card reader.

Thank you for your hint. I got the direction anyway.
Regards,
Jim

Do you have any memory cards (borrow one from a friend)? If so, just plug it in and see what happens. When you peel back the "sticky paper", exactly what do you see? Post your model number and we'll see if we can locate info for you.

chinan,
Should be a door that opens revealing the four slots. this door is located under the floppy drive. The sticky paper is probably part of the packaging so the door doesn't fall open and get broken off while it is being boxed.

Are you sure your model is W2888 and not W2828?

Have a look here for manual and drivers.

Thanks. it is a card-reader device for media cards.

Some article in the internet says when you install a card reader in a computer, it will disaply 4 extra "removable disks" in the Explorer.

It is still a little hard for me to understand. so far as I know a USB port/device usually does not display in the Explorer/My-Computer unless a equipments is pluged in. But this equipment just like a CD drive, always showing 4 drives even not plugged with anything.

Anyway, I just disabled them in BIOS.

The reason they always show: a USB port, is just a port - nothing (device) plugged in, doesn't show. A multifunction reader (device) like you have is actually connected - whether you have a card in or not.

I have an old(sort of) emachine with these same ports, which you will quickly discover their usage if you ever get a digital camera.

SD memory card, Memory Stick, Microdrive, and your usual USB 2.0 port... SD memory cards are usually what you'd find in new digital cameras, and memory sticks are commonly what you might have for a portable MP3 player (not like anybody really uses it for mp3's anymore with ipods and the like out)

Their technical names are as follows....(if yours is the same as mine; then the connections are in this order on your machine)

USB 2.0 port SD/MMC/SM/MS-PRO port CF/MICRODRIVE port

Hope this helps;
