Hi All,

I just recently passed my Network+ exam and I want to resume studying after Christmas. I think I am going to do CompTIA Server+ exam, and then be done with CompTIA. After that, I would like to probably move onto MCP or MCSA and especially MCSA since A+ and Network+ (I have A+ also) count towards an elective exam.

My question is:

I have been using Todd Lammle's books to self study for A+ and Network+. I love his books and find them very easy to follow and understand. I cannot find a Server+ book anywhere on the net.

Did Todd Lammle do a Server+ book? If not, which Server+ book should I buy?

Do you think it's a good idea to do Server+ followed by MCP/MCSA.

Thanks for all the advice again. Love the site.

I don't know if Mike Meyers has written a book for the new objectives on Server + but his books are what I used for my MCP and MCSA. They were really good and did a good job of prepping for the test. I don't think Todd Lammle did a book on Server +.

The Server+ is currently at the 2009 edition..

That said, all recommended self study guides/books on the CompTIA website are for the 2005 edition which will be retired at the end of this year. You may want to purchase a 2005 edition study guide, Sybex is always my first choice, and supplement it with the other training material listed on the site. Additionally, Google is your friend where the exam blueprint comes into play.

Otherwise, you could take another CompTIA certification in the meantime... hmmm... Linux+... then take the Server+ once some updated exam guides are available. I hope this helps.

I know that it's a longer-term goal for you, but unless you have an employer who is specifically asking for the MCSA or MCSE OR you are already several exams down that path then I would probably skip it. Most companies by now are deploying Windows 2008 or 2008 R2, so it makes sense to be certified on the current technology (MCITP:SA or MCITP:EA). You will probably still have to manage legacy environments but you're better off being prepared for what's coming than what's already here.
