Hi all,

I am looking for some advice and was hoping that someone here could help me. A few years ago I started studying for the A+ examination. Unfortunately due to a number of personal issues I was not able to complete the course in a reasonable amount of time. I now want to 'pick up from where I left off' however I understand that the examinations for this qualification have now changed. Does this now mean that the study material that I bought when I origianlly started is now no good? What are the differences between the old exams and the new ones? Would it be best for me to buy some new study books etc?

Regards,

Rob

Rob,

The easiest would be to just buy a new book for the A+ - things have changed and what you have now, depending on how old it is might cover about 75-85% of the current test!!!

I would try to get a book that is different and then use both the new and the old, using the old to suppliment whats in the new book, since some things will be the same!

You can go to CompTIA and download the objectives here if you want to see how much has changed -

Best practice for the A+ is to get an older computer and practice what you are reading about on that computer!!

Good luck!!

Hi CiscoGuy33,

Many thanks for your reply. I had suspected that it would probably be worth starting afresh with a new book. I have had a look about and it seems that there are quite a few with varying reviews. Can you recommend a good one?

Regards,

Rob

Rob,

I have always liked the CompTIA books done by Mike Myers (I think that is the name) and I love the CBT Nuggets - CBT Nuggets are not cheap but when I get tired of reading I like the computer lectures of the CBT Nuggets, you can try some of these for FREE at
Good luck!!!

Hello again,

You're not kidding the CBT Nuggets are not cheap!!! I think maybe I'll stick with the books for now.

Thanks again for your help.

Rob

A+ is a total cakewalk. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on CBT Nuggets just for the A+. The latest A+ study guide put out by Mike Meyers is really all anyone needs to pass the test.

Hi guys,

I was wondering for the A+ cert. Would you have to take all categories 602,603,& 604 to become certified?

Thanks All

just go buy the new book from comptia, they are good people. there is no sense wasteing valuable time trying to figure out what you know and teaching an old dog new habits. or something.

get the book study. they update every six months. june 30, 2009 the ibjectives may or may not change. thats when my vouchers expire.
