This question is directed to anyone using a Comapq MSL5026 tape library that is not having any major issues.

How is your SCSI cabling and SCSI ID's configured?

1 or 2 SCSI Hosts?
Which way are the cables connected?
What SCSI ID's are used by which devices?

Hello,
I have successfully implemented and used the Compaq MSL5026 tape library unit in the past in a stand-alone and SAN implementation. Here are some pointers to help answer your questions:

1. If possible, keep the two drives on separate SCSI controllers/buses. This helps with throughput/traffic.
2. Each device (library, drive 0, drive 1) will have an individual SCSI ID.
3. Unless there is a reason for you to change the default SCSI ID's set by the factory on the three devices, leave them alone. Just verify that they are all different.
4. As far as the cabling, keep one end of the library terminated. The other end of the library will go into one SCSI controller port. One drive will go on the same controller/different port as the library. The other drive will go onto the second SCSI controller/port. Again, this configuration will yield best throughput/traffic control.

Later! :)
