I am trying to get to Administrative Tools/Component Services; however when I open up Administrative Tools Nothing is listed, ie no Event Viewer, none of the others normally listed.

I can get to Component Services by letting the Help and Support system open it.

Any ideas on how to get Administrative Tools populated?

Thank you,

Jim

all the programs are in the system32 directory (the *.msc files). The directory the shortcuts are in is the 'Documents and Settings/All Users/Start Menu/Programs/Administrive tools.' directory

So check that it still exists and has not been deleted for some reason

If so recreate the directory. Then go to the system32 directory. Right click on all the .msc files. Click on create shortcut, and drag the shortcuts to the admin tools directory just created.
Alternatively, you can run the .msc files from the Start/ Run option

ASG0856,

Thanks for the help. I used your suggestions and got them back.

Another item, my wife's PC went through an unnecessary PC Recovery, no thanks to HP Tech Supt. I had to reinstall everything, etc. One problem is in Documents and Settings where the various User Settings are. There is All Users, Default User, Linda, and now Linda.PC27734284562. This latter one is the new one and the Linda is the old one.
I have renamed and moved the old one to a backup location.
Is there any way that I can change the new one back to Linda?
Rename won't let me and Control Panel/User Accounts has no reference to that PC suffix on Linda's account. (BTW, an Administrator Type Account).

Thanks again,

Jim..

Check what the permissions are on the directory. The directory name obviously comes from the PC Recovery action.

It's probably because you are trying to change the name of the active user directory.

Try restarting the computer in Safe Mode and log on using the administrator account (thinking on it, it should log in as Administrator in safe mode anyway) . That should leave the Linda.PC-- directory unlocked and allow you to change the name.
