Hi all,
I need to create an application in Builder 3 that will run as a NT Service: must be able to run when no user is logged into the computer and have a configurable option allowing the service to interact with the desktop. As far as I now this can be done in Builder 5 but for reasons independent of my will I have to write it in Builder 3. My question to you is: does someone know of any component that has been created for such a purpose, to be use with Builder 3 to enable to application to act as a NT service? Any hint will be helpful as to where to look for it or whom to ask.
Thanks,
Michaela

I'm not aware of a component, but I'll keep looking. Meantime, look at the RunServices, RunServicesOnce, and RegisterServiceProcess API's at MSDN's site. msdn.microsoft.com

Hi Mr.Cottingham,
Thank you very much for the tip. I'll go and check it. It feels so good to find out that there are people ready to lend a hand when needed...
Thanks again,
Mihaela

I didn't find a component but I did find this article. If the link does work, just go to the CBuilder site and look for this article "Writing NT Services" by By Kent Reisdorph or you can go to Borland's community site and search for "NT service".

Thank you so much for the information. Well, as usually it comes down to some 'engineering' - borrow some hpp from a newer version and try to integrate it. I hope it will work.
Thanks,
Mihaela
