Ok, I'm a windows admin and really never seen a Linux machine before. As my network grew, I needed a way to easier handle my Syslogs from my firewalls and routers and everyone told me that Linux is the way to go. They also said that Fedora is a great first version. Ok, now I have the OS installed and now I'm lost. How do I proceed? Can someone help?

Thank You!

Are you trying to get Windows syslogs onto Unix?! Or the firewall/router logs?

Syslog can be configured to take in logs from other devices.

This link is an example of what you can discover by googling for information

G'day,

you would be wise to start reading (a lot  )

As thedaver said, devices like firewalls and routers can spit out syslog type messages. In their configuration screens there will be somewhere where you tell it the name of the linux box with syslog running on it. Most distros have syslog running already but there will probably need to be some config to do.

Remember to do 'man syslog.conf' on your linux box to start learning.

Good luck.

Dave.
