I have encountered a problem on a windows xp pro computer with Office XP installed on it.
All the Office XP programs went into “reduced functionality mode”, and nothing could be done in the programs except looking at files and reading mail. The user could not reply to mail or create new email in Outlook with this problem, nor could he save any new Word documents.
Normally I should be able to solve this problem by activating the product but I can’t, as the button to allow activation is greyed out.
While investigating this problem someone told me this copy might be a trial version which would have been good for 30 days and then would have gone into reduced functionality mode.
I used this information to determine if the program was in fact a trial version, but based on the information in 295369 it appears this is not a trial version, and therefore that is not the problem.
I have uninstalled Office XP through Add/Remove programs in order to attempt a reinstall but am concerned something may be left in the registry.
So, first of all, Is there a utility to clean up all traces of an Office XP install? The remove tool with ORK for Office XP seems to apply to removal of prior versions to allow clean installs of Office XP.
Secondly, if anyone has any ideas about the "reduced Functionality mode" issue I am still interested in knowing why it occurred. I am especially concerned that even after I reinstall Office XP, this problem may still be there.
Thanks for all help.
