compile error

I am trying to compile a program and I keep on getting this message at the end.

checking for KDE headers installed... configure: error: your system is not able
to compile a small KDE application!
Check, if you installed the KDE header files correctly.

How can I fix this.

How about a verbose error statement? When is this breaking, during ./configure? I was in #flood the other day and a couple kde-based coders were saying that KDE needs some environment variables set (KDELIB, KDEINCLUDEDIR, I forget exactly) or compiles will break (sorry, irc logs not available right now, in Windows doing some Access stuff ).

At least the exact error message, and the 5-10 lines preceding it would be useful.

stupid question. how do i found out what distrubution i am running, i installed all options via the iso images.
