I am getting an error every time that I open and close Word 2000
The error when opening is :
"Compile Error in Hidden Module: AutoExec"
When Closing:
"Compile Error in Hidden Module: AutoExit"
I am running Office2K Sr-1, I have repaired Office and re-service packed the application. I have searched Technet and Microsoft's site and tried the suggested workarounds. I use Norton AV with updated defs. Has anyone seen this error and have a quick fix?? Any help would be appreciated. BTW I am new to this forum but I've been browsing it for awhile and like what I see. I look forward to many more posts.

Thanks for the response Dreamboat, but I tried that fix already and it didn't work. Any other ideas? I'm sure that I could reinstall Office and fix it but I would rather find a fix because another user has reported the same problem. Gotta love it or we wouldn't be here!

It had a file called PdfMaker.dot. I renamed it and tried Word again but I still get the error. Hm Gotta love it or we wouldn't be here!

Hello, RandysPC.

I would suggest you locate both the troubling making pdfmaker.dot (which you have located) and pdfmaker.xla in the office startup folders to My Documents. Here are the three pertinent articles from mskb for detail instructions and the explanation of the problem :

Thanks for the response tsuji. I read and tried the articles that you suggested before I posted and they didn't work. Just for the fun of it I tried them again with the same result. It must be an unknown bug in Office or some of the Adobe apps I have installed (what a surprise). I'll keep working on it. Gotta love it or we wouldn't be here!

Randy: Are you sure? Perhaps you are not viewing hidden files? (Windows Explorer-Tools menu-Folder options-"show all files")

When's the last time you did a virus check? The error you're getting is a VBA error. Try running Word by Start-Run and type

winword.exe /a

(You may need to include the path). If you don't get the error then, you've definitely got a file opening somehow. If you do still get the error, see how to do Word's regedit that I talk about in my FAQ right here. (FAQ tab while viewing the forum list of questions.) Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

Whew! I finally found the problem. I run Goldmine 5.5 and it has a link to Word that apparently got broken. I Reinstalled the link and everything works just fine. What a nightmare figuring this one out! Thanks for the responses. Gotta love it or we wouldn't be here!
