My OS is Win2k Pro with the new SP3 service pack installed. I have earthlink as my dsl provider, I use WinPoet to connect to the net. The probelm is I am unable to install Nortel's VPN client (ver 4.1), Aftert installation when I reboot my computer I get the Blue screen of death, with the message that goes something like this " Bad pool error 0x70000000, 0x...... blah... blah... blah. If you have seen this error for the first time please remove or uninstall the last software which was installed. etc etc". So I uninstalled the client in safe mode. This happened many times, so I got frustrated and took my PC to my company IS guy. He found the problem but not the solutiuon.

When he uninstalled WinPoet the VPN client installed and my PC rebooted without any problems. Also we tried to install the VPN client first and then later Winpoet, when you do that the machine reboots loads up all the drivers and then again reboots, this happens over and over again. So we came to the conclusion that WinPoet and and the Nortel client ar not compatible in Win2k. Now I cannot connect to the internet without Winpoet and I have to use the VPN client because I work from home quite often. Iam in a fix. So did any of you have this problem, seen it before and fixed it? Please help me out if you have any information regarding this issue.

Note: I was using the WinPoet and Nortel's VPN client on Win 98 without any problems whatsover.

It could be the version of the nortel client that you are using b/c winpoet/earthlink dsl and the nortel contivity client 4.15d can work together OR some other software / network setting on your pc. There is also a newer nortel client available, but we have not yet tested it where I work.

Earthlink and verizon both use winpoet. Winpoet is a connection Manager for PPPoE.
WinPoet and Nortel do not get along at all, and since EarthLink and Verizon both use outdated versions of WinPoet, so Nortel and WinPoet themselves offer NO support.
What we have done with our VPN wrappers that include Nortel for the client, is it runs a check, if WinPoet is detected then it installs Nortel version 4.15 (and it works), if it is not then Nortel 4.6 gets installed. You must have WinPoet installed first and install the 4.15 client. But to tell the truth, it works ten times better if you have a router and configure it for pppoe instead of putting software on your machine.
Win98 does not have this problem, and winxp has a native pppoe connection manager that you use (WinPoet is not complient with XP, and there for EarthLink and Verizon advise you not to install on XP machines)

Hi,
I have an exactly same problem. Please respond, if you have found any solution.
Thank you

I have installed Winpoet V4.0 on my Win2K home computer and my NT4.0 latop using Nortel V.3.7.3 VPN client. Everything works ok but I don't like the idea that I have to start Winpoet everytime I want to access the Net.

Does anyone know, if I buy a router does it still need Winpoet or just configure PPPOE in the router setup. Also, will the VPN client still work behind the router.

I have had WinPoet 2.1 and Contivity VPN V04_10.68 installed on my NEC laptop with W2K working fine for two years. When I tried to install on my new Dell laptop, I got this "pool" thing and continous rebooting.

I finally got it to work by formatting the hard drive, installing W2k SP2, WinPoET 2.1 which creates a virtual netcard, installing W2k SP3 then installing Contivity VPN V04_10.68.

After this, just for kicks, I Nuked WinPoET and installed WinPoET 4, then uninstalled VPN and installed Contivity VPN V04_60.51. Still working.

Anyone knows what the Nortel "eacfilt miniport #4" is? It appears in network devices after installing Nortel VPN.
