Same price 1 & 2

1)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Processor Speed 2.3GHz

2)
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400
Processor Speed 2.0GHz

& whats the difference between the above 2 vs this one
is the performance significance to for extra $70

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+

See for yourself.... as it depends on intended used.
Also look at the low end Intel E6550 with 1333fsb

I would also work out the total cost of your platform to give a better idea of price/performance.
AMD can generally compete at the very low end but thats where it ends, Intel totally dominates in every other area.

If it sounds like I'm contradicting myself it's because you bought the AMD5600 into the mix.
I still love AMD and hope they can come back with a bang, I would really like to see them competing all the way up the Intel line up but unfortunately that's just not going to happen at present until they can shrink their production down to 45nm dye.
I do however believe that at the low end they are competitive, it's as soon as the price sellected moves into the 1000/1333fsb Intel 6000 series range where AMD are dead in the water.

I am aware that AMD cannot compare with Intel in higher end models but from below 2 processor which is the best for same price.

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400

head to head.

if the top 2 are the same price then id go for intel, they are better than amd but don't get me wrong, amd are very good too but intels always out perform amd on speed and i wouldn't waste $70 on the 5600, well not waste but the top 2 are perfectly capable, especially the intel.

i had the amd 6000 and it's very good but wanted an intel so went for the intel e6850 which im very happy with and can tell the difference in speed.

Asus P5K Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz
4GB DDR2 667 MHz
320GB Sata Hard Drive
ATI EAX1550 Gamer Edition 1GB

The reason I mentioned the Intel 6000 series is because the 2000/4000 operate at a lower fsb.
I said the AMD X2 4400 as I believe overall at stock speed the AMD has better graphics and bigger hard disk, the CPU's at stock speed I believe are very similar although the Intel has undoubtedly more overclocking potential.
I also believe if you are looking at slightly higher up the CPU charts then start with the slowest 1333fsb Intel, the E6550 but there you go.
Remember, another consideration, is an addon graphics card if you want reasonablle game play, then I guess the choice swings back to the Intel rig but be wary of the supplied PSU as it is likely under powered for such an upgrade.
