I have a Prosigna 300 and I'm not too sure on how to fix it, when the screen saver is on for more than 10 minutes, a fatal error occurs, I tried reinstalling 98 on the SCSI Hard Drive, but the installation process doesn't recognize the hard drive. How can I put the operating system on here. I'm not too familiar with SCSI, and this is the first time I'm putting an OS on a primary scsi hard drive.

Three choices.
Do you have a boot floppy that came with the system? The drivers for the SCSI should be on the boot floppy. But that is dependent on what Compaq put on the disk.
Another choice is making the cd the boot device in the bios if this is an available choice.
Last chance is reinstalling with the Compaq rebuild cd.
But there is one other question. Do you have an IDE drive? If so the IDE must be the boot device.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
I have the machine, you driver floppy disk, no restore CD, and compaq doesn't give me access to the bios. That's the rock and the hard place.

When it banners on bootup what SCSI controller does it find? If you are lucky there may be someone that can make you a 95/98 boot floppy that can get you out of the tight space.
Normal install is using a boot floppy, choosing from a menu of drivers, then running setup from the CD. But there are different drivers for just about every HD controller manufacturer and without the proper drivers the CD is not recognized.
I understand the feeling of rocks and hard places. That describes my life, both personally and professionally. But that's the thrill when you're into S&M.
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
