Compaq Presario SR 1222NX-B desktop has been working fine for years. Running Xp Home.
Today it will not power on, and the LED on the back panel just below the power selector is flashing green, instead of the steady green when operating normally.
I have been thru the documents and in contact with HP, but have not been able to discover what a flashing LED means.
Thank you.

Two things come to mind:

1. PSU related, either a dead or shorted PSU...

2. CMOS battery depleted and dead...

but any ways, I would replace the CMOS battery first, as it is the cheapest thing to do...

you can also read the general trouble shooters guide for Compaq computers, found here:

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.

The power supply has probably failed. You can try leaving unplugged for an hour or more (I've seen 1 start working again), but most likely it will need to be replaced.

Replaced the battery, still nothing. HP support wants me to
"Clear RTC RAM (3-pin CLRTC).This jumper allows you to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS."

Could this be related to the problem?
Thank you

I tried the "paperclip technique" between the green and the black wire of the motherboard connetor. It caused the green LED to stop blinking and glow normally. Not sure what to make of that.

replaced the power supply, all ok, smooth sailing, pie in the sky, yodel ee hoo ha!
