My mistake trying to help my nephew! He tried using a new video game he got for Christmas but the graphics were sluggish. I told him he needed to upgrade video card. After spending 100$ for a 64 mb card I installed it for him. I didnt realize the CompaQ Presario 7360 had onboard video, When I tried to boot NOTHING! Only the fan comes on. I removed card but no change. I tried a bios reset by removing battery, but still no video signal. I cant even get to bios screen. Can anyone help? Thanks

When you removed the cmos battery, did you unplug the power supply first? What worked for me the other day:
1)unplug power supply
2)remove cmos for 30 seconds (at least)
3)reseat cmos
4)plug power back in

You didn't short anything while installing / removing the video?

Hope this helps.

should you disable the internal video. did you see compaq.com . is it an incompatable videocrt did you try to put back the old one an look in the bios?

cq2; you have to disable the onboard ; suggest you email compaq support. they gave me step by step instructions on how to do this, let me know if you need the steps, fairly basic steps.

Thanks for the reply guys. Still no luck. I didnt disable the existing video before I installed the new card, something must have shorted. I removed the new card and poppped the battery out. waited overnight..no luck. I moved the jumper pin for 5 secs with power off and battery in.. then power off battery in. Still nothing. I get the fan motor but no screen at all. I even unplugged all the peripherals and tried. One other note since I had it apart I added a 128mb memory chip but have since removed that as well. Please email with any other suggestions. chaz@ameritech.net thanks

When you add the PCI card it will
automatically disable the intergrated one. That mobo will
also take 2 sticks of 256mb pc100 (I am assuming that you are running an AMD K6/2 500 cpu). Try putting the
new card back in and make sure it is in the first pci slot (the one closest to the top of the case)and seated correctly. Also make sure you attach your monitor to the new card and not to the old one. Leave the new memory out until you get the video back working. Also make sure that all the power connectors to the drives are reconnected if
you disconnected them to swing the power supply out of the way to install the memory.

cq2, mainegeek is right on, sounds like he also has had the displeasure of working on a compaq. the ram is a bit tricky to get seated. i did not know it would automaticaly disable the integrated one. thanks for the tip.

Nothing has worked................ board must be fried. cant get any display. Thanks for the help anyway

advice from someone who has 2 compaqs, think long and hard and definately do a lot of research if you are thinking about upgade or rebuild. count you losses and build your own machine. this is my opinion and as always i am nobody. good luck! PEARL
