Compaq Evo n1020v Laptop Freezing Up

Hi all,

I have a Compaq Evo n1020v Laptop that is randomly freezing up. Sometimes it won't get past the BIOS screen, sometimes the BIOS Start Up screen never appears and other times it will just about make it into Windows and then freeze.

I have now tried a new install on the exisiting disk but setup halted whilst formatting the drive.

Any ideas anyone what I should try next?

check the harddisk with diag tool

is the battery and power adapter/charger ok ?
can you substitute them for known good ones.

Hi,

The battery and charger are both ok.

It is not the hard disk as I have swapped it over for another one and I am sure a faulty HDD wouldn't stop the machine from booting.

I am starting to think the motherboard or PSU is at fault.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
