Hi All

Having problems getting to the BIOS on a Compaq Deskpro 6000, boots up to these messages:
1782 Disk Controller Failure
162 System options not set

Its a P200 Non MMX with a socket 8 M/B, installing a hard drive from another machine has O/S win98 on it. any ideas

Regards Eskimo

1782 is a hard drive circuitry error, usually means you have to replace the hard drive, but try another IDE cable first, as this can cause the same error. Older machines do not autodetect hard drives all that well, and you will have to enter setup and manually identify your drive size if your system cannot get it right.

Here's the troubleshooting manual for this class of computer:

Thanks for the reply's

Do not think it is the H/D pulled from another machine and working, only 1.2Gig disk. Have downloaded computer set-up disks from Compaq hope they work, as i can not get into the BIOS and these disks are supposed to let me enter F10 to get to the comp set-up? will let you know if they work maybe of use to somebody else, these old machines are a pain in neck (never do a relative a favour)it cost to much.

Cheers Eskimo
