Does anyone happen to know what Computer Associates official order they recomend installing the Compaq Support Paq and the ArcServe service pack? I know order can be critical involving Compaq support Paq and service packs of several kinds. Microsoft officially recommends applying the Compaq support paq AFTER the windows service pack.

I have found this to be very important and have found several problems caused by applying at ArcServe service pack and not reapplying the Compaq Support Paq. This not just true with Arcserve but many diffrent programs and hardware. My manager just wants CA's official recommendation on the matter.

Thanks for any imput. A link to CA's web site where is says it would be most wonderful. I couldn't find it on the site myself.

Hi,

This might be of help but have just migrated our backups to a new Compaq server.

I did the Arcserv stuff last and simply installed SP4 for ARCServ 2K followed by the tape eng patch QO29368 then Quick intilise patch QO20824 and finally QO27941 to be able to read the newly inserted media. I then patched any software I had such as the Lotus Notes recovery stuff.

Hope this helps.

This is the responce I got from the horse's mouth. I almost forgot to post this after I got it. Hope this answers someone else's question because I am not entirely certin I belive that it dosn't matter which comes first but I have to go with the official recomendation that there is no official recomendation.

"There is no specific hard and fast rule with respect to the ARcserve Service
packs. You can apply them either before the support pack or after the support
pack.

Thanks and Have a Great Day.
