G'day

My sons monitor went out and a friend gave me a COMPACT 7500, Model PE1164U, it's running on a HP Pavillion 6330 PC, I can only get it to display in 16 colors, I tried Drivers.Com, and I either performed the bloody serach wrong, or something I did wrong. Can anyone help me find a site or know where I can download the correct driver & adaptor for this monitor please

Cheers Mate

The driver for the SiS 5598 onboard video adapter in the HP Pavilion 6330 no longer seems to be available from the HP site.

However, after a bit of Googling I was able to find and download it from here:
The support software for the 7500 monitor (i.e. the INF file and ICM colour profile) can be downloaded from the HP site here:

Un-zip the video adapter driver first and install it by running 'setup.exe'.

Afterwards, run the 'sp24734.exe' monitor support installer. This will unpack some files including a 'Monitor Readme.txt' file which describes how to install the INF and ICM files.

Hope this helps...

G'day,

Thank you Rick998 for taking the time to search those for me, I tried I couldn't find them.

The problem I face now there is no bloody unzip program on his computer, I tried to find a free one on the several sites, all I could find is a trial ware but you have to pay $29.95 up front, then they bloody well allow you to download for a trial, and if you don't like it after 30 days you get your money back. I am a disabled combat veteran on a fixed income, and I just can't afford to pay out the money to unzip one program, I hate to be this close with your help/searchinging, and now can't finish due to no unzip program. Is there such a site to get a free unzip program?

Thanks mate

SEan

G'day,

I got the unzip program, what I should have asked mate is how do I install it, the program unzipped it into a window showed all the files in the program, but I don't know which setup/app to push to install, I did as you said, unzipped that one program first, there is where the confusion comes in, I feel like a bloody child needing a tutor, can I trouble you or someone else willing to assist, thanks so muchj

Thanks mate

Once the un-zip program has been installed, try right-clicking on the '5598_113_win98.zip' file and see if you get an option to 'un-zip to 5598_113_win98'.

If so then this means the file will be un-zipped to a folder called '5598_113_win98.zip'. If you don't get an option by right-clicking on the file then you may need to open it in the un-zip program and choose 'extract'.

If you let me know what un-zip program you installed then I may be able to give more accurate advice.

Once the file has been un-zipped (or extracted)you can open the newly-created folder and double-click on the 'setup.exe' file. This will start the installation of the driver for the video adapter.

The second file will un-zip automatically but you'll need to make a note of where it un-zips itself.

Hope this helps...

Rick

G'day,

I fould the setup, the COMPAQ Monitor is showing up, but I still can't get more than 16 colors, so I went to Devu=ice Manager, and this is what it says under properties:

Under General Tab: hp 7500 Color Monitor

Under Drivewr Tab: hp 7500 color Monitor

No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. To update drived click update driver button

I clicked on that and it takes me back to the HP 7500 folder but no new driver, sorry to trouble you so much mate.

Those property details are for the monitor. Still in Device Manager, what do the property details show for the 'Display Adapter'?

It should say something like 'SiS 5598' if you've run 'Setup.exe' from the un-zipped '5598_113_win98.zip' file and re-booted.

Hope this helps...

G'day,

General Tab: SiS 5597/5598
Device Type: Display Adaptor
Manufacture: SiS
Hardware Version: 104

Driver Tab: SiS 5597/5598

Driver File Details; D:\windows\system\sis597m.Drv
D:\windows\system\sis597m.vxd
D:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd {vdd.vxd}

The Display Adapter Properties show the correct filenames and the Monitor Properties show the correct monitor.

Unfortunately it still sounds like the display adapter is stuck in the default 16 colour mode... but that adapter/monitor combination should be able to display 24 bit colour up to 1024 x 768.

If you go to 'Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display', what size screen area is the screen set to? 640 x 480? 800 x 600?

G'day Rick, I sure appreciate your time this is what it says:

When I restart it says There is a problem with your display settings. This adapter type is incorrect or the current settings do not work with your hardware.

This is the size;

16 Color 640 x 480

If I Tick on the "Colors" Droip Down Menu on the bottom left, if has 16 colors, 256 colors, high color 16 bit.

But if I try changing any of them when it reboots i GET A FATAL EXCEPTION ERROR

This is so depressing

OK... this means that although the drivers for both the video adapter and monitor are correct, there's still some sort of corruption.

Have a look at particularly the section labelled DISPLAY PROBLEMS. It will walk you though the steps suggested to correct the problem. If the steps don't work then you will need to un-install then re-install the adapter driver.

I forgot to ask... what exactly did the Fatal Exception Error say? Dis it mention amy error number or the name of the module that failed?

G'day,

Fatal exception 0D has occurred at 032F:00005603

These sorts of errors are really difficult to diagnose remotely but 'Fatal exception OD' indicates the program (or driver) has been corrupted in memory. Does the error mention any specific module, e.g. GDI?

If this doesn't work then it looks like you are going to have to change to a VGA driver, then un-install the SiS driver and then re-install it. Make sure you follow the steps in first, particularly the section labelled DISPLAY PROBLEMS.

If this doesn't resolve the issue then follow the steps in particularly the sections labelled 'Unable to Adjust Display Settings', 'Advanced graphics settings' and 'Verify valid driver files'.

Hope this helps...

G'day,

I know I bloody well followed all the steps, nothing seems to work. And there was not that other code you asked about in that Fault Error Message, I copied the bloody thing word for word mate. I wish there was so way other than words to express my appreciation for all the time you have been helping me with this, words don't seem enough.

I reckon this PC is going to remain cranky, so may I ask you one more time, how would I install a VGA, and will it give better than 16 color quality?

Hmmm... I'm beginning to clutch at straws now. I haven't used 98 for years so apologies if I get anything wrong.

VGA is just a bog-standard video driver that can only use 16 colours at a resolution (screen area) of 640 x 480. It's only real use is so you can see what you are doing to remove a corrupt video driver and re-install.

If you open 'My Computer' and look at the contents of the hard disk, can you see any files in the root of C: that look like FILE0001.CHK, FILE0002.CHK, etc? If so then these damaged files are a clear indication of file corruption.

If you haven't already done so, run the 'System File Checker' (SFC.EXE).

If you have already run the 'System File Checker' (SFC.EXE) then the next step is to carry out a check of the hard disk in case there are any hardware errors. In the Start > Run dialog, enter SCANDISK and press RETURN.

Carry out a standard scan first to check whether there are any filesystem problems. If the PC passes the standard scan then run SCANDISK again but this time carry out a 'Thorough' scan. This will check the hard disk for physical damage and, if found, will mark any damaged sectors as 'not to be used'.

See for more info.

It's 1am here and I'm shattered so I'm going to bed. I'll check back in tomorrow morning.

Hope this helps...

G'day Rick,

It was a bloody strike out, scandisk found no errors. My neighbor gave me a monitor he had extra, it's not a brand name and I am not sure who makes it. It's says on the label on the back: Emachine Model 786N, made in 2003.

Again, thanks mate for all the hours you spent on me, I didn't realize I have been messing with this thing since (9:00 AM, now it's bed time, if you have time any info you may know about this monitor would be deeply appreciated.

Cheers mate,

Sean

It's good that SCANDISK didn't find any errors with the file structure or surface of your hard disk.

Sorry but it's not clear whether you have also run the System File Checker (SFC.EXE) so can you confirm yes or no? (The System File Checker is used to check that the operating system files are all present and not corrupted).

If you can confirm that SFC hasn't found and corrected any problems then we'll move on to the next step... un-installing and re-installing the SiS video adapter driver.

Sorry but I don't know anything about Emachine monitors. However, the Compaq S7500 monitor is a very good quality one so, if it was working on your friend's PC without any problems then I would stick with this one.

Hope this helps...

Sean,

I've just spotted another post from you (thread615-1274180) that indicates your Pavilion 6330 PC is running Windows ME, not 98.

If so then a Windows ME driver for the SiS5597/98 can be obtained from It's different from the Windows 98 driver so I hope you have more luck with it.

Alternatively, I've found another WinME driver at which may work.

See , especially response 13, for details about changing your display driver.

If you still get problems then you may need to track down an update for the VGA BIOS (597v113.exe)... have a look at Q6 on as it indicates there are problems with the v113 driver and VGA BIOS under Windows 98 (so may also be a problem under Windows ME).

If so then the 597v113.exe file can be obtained from
I note that others appear to have (had) the same problem... have a look at
Hope this helps...
