I just got our shop a Compaq 3000R Pentium III 500 with 128 meg of Ram. Now for the big question I don't want to spend a mint on harddrives since it is a play (rather a test) server for us. I have been trying to auction a drive or two 9.1 gig or so and I cant figure out what will fit. I know its hot swappable, and Ultra Wide SCSI3, but everyone offers drives by part numbers I cant find on the Compaq site. Does anyone know of a place I can find the information to guide me. The Search on compaq doesn't even pull up their own part numbers. Some drives I see are 1" and some are 1.6" One in particular I see alot of are 199882-001 Compaq 9.1 gig Hot Swappable Ultra Scsi 3 with the following specs.

Compaq 9.1 Hot Pluggable Hard Drive

Capacity (GB) - 9.1
Interface: Wide Ultra SCSI-3
Connector - 80 Pin
Physical Size: 3.5x1.6
5.25 x 2 in tray
Speed: 7ms Seek Time

The server model # I have is 382250-001

will these work?

I know someone out there can make heads or tails out of this. Thank you for your time.

Use the following Ultra2/Ultra3 drives with the 600 MHz (154258-xx2), 550 MHz (126747-xx2) and 500 MHz (382200-xx2) Array models and the optional Ultra2/Ultra3 drive cages (382157-B21 and 123135-B21).

Wide Ultra3 SCSI – Universal Hot Plug
36.4-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1² )
176496-B22

18.2-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1² )
142673-B22

9.1-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1² )
142671-B22

18.2-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 15,000 rpm Drive (1² )
188122-B22

9.1-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 15,000 rpm Drive (1² )
188120-B22

Note: Wide Ultra2/Ultra3 SCSI Drives only supported in the Wide Ultra2/Ultra3 Simplex Drive cage (382157-B21) and the Wide Ultra2/Ultra3 Simplex/Duplex Drive cage (123135-B21). (The Simplex Wide Utlra2/Ultra3 Drive Cage ships standard in the Array Models.)

The Compaq 3000R server uses wide-ultra SCSI 10K hot swapable hard drives. I have checked a drive and I believe the part number for the 9.1gb drive is 336381-001. I am not sure if Compaq still do the 9.1gb drive. You may find you have to use 18gb drives.

If you have got the caddies, you can get Sun hard drives to work as well...

I have got some IBM disks in one of my 3000s, but they will come out if Compaq come in to work on it as it invalidates the warranty :)

If you have caddies Get some Quantum or IBM SCA Ultra3/160 drives, bloody quick in 10,000 rpm form & infinitely cheaper than compaqs dodgy WD drives,

You guys, He cannot use the Ultra 3 SCSI harddrives at all. He needs the SCSI3 drives, and these are two completely different types of drives with different scsi connectivity interfaces.
Ultra3-->160Mb/Sec
SCSI3-->40Mb/sec

The Ultra3 hotplug harddrives look black with a silver casing and the SCSI3 hotplug drives are beige in color. Tomavery if you have beige drives currently used then order the SCSI3 drives, If you have black drive then order the Utlra3 harddrives. If you want to find a compatable drive for yourself, do a search on for a 'Harddrive Matrix.'

The drives compatable with your server are Option part#313706-b21 or 336357-b21 10k rpm. You can call the COMPAQ parts department to get this 1-800-888-9909.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions at all.

Good luck.

We buy HD and other Compaq Assy from Power Order On-line (stupid name - good prices). Jeff can help with part number cross-reference info. Jeff's number is 866-727-8791 (he is one of my vendors - I have NO OTHER interests; you can tell him Mark @ ESC told you). Compaq is also good (depending on to whom you speak). Their number is 800-652-6672 (800-ok-Compaq).

Just my 2 cents!

Why not put Compaq Insight Manager on the server and let it tell you what kind of drives they are? I can go to any of my servers and tell you pretty much anything about them wit CIM.

You can download it from Compaq if you don;t have smartstart CD's.
