Company setup Report Name/Display Name

I created a new company for 2008 before doing final close. However, when I change the report name and display name in Fisal_2008 under system manager, it also is being changed in the Live company. I've gone into the macsql.cfg, and here is one example:

[Company_008]
Name=Final Close 08
Server=macola
Database=Final_2008
Lockdb=MSLLockDB
FRL=False


Every thing is here is correct for each specific company. Can anyone assist with why the report/display name is changing throughtout? The data isn't being changed in 008. That's been the same since 3/19 when I created it.
 
The report/display name change in company setup never writes to the macsql.cfg file. It is unclear what the problem is. Please elaborate.

I agree and know that - but I was looking at previous questions/answers and someone suggested looking at that file. That's why I put that part in.

I went to Progression Setup Utility to create 008, and named it Final Fiscal 2008. I then logged in as supervisor under 008 company and went to system manager -> maintain _> company setup. I was taught to copy the screens as the live company, but to change the report and display name to reflect the new company. When I put "Final Close 2008" in 008, the report/display name also changes in the live company.
 
I just tested this and it works fine. What version are you using? I am on 7.7.100.

One thing I am concerned about, only because I have never seen it, is your database name. I have never seen any database name other than the standard data_xxx convention. I am not saying it will not work, its just that I have never seen this in 12 years and hundreds of Macola installs.

I got the report and display names to change - I don't know why it finally worked, though. The version I'm on is 7.6.300c. Now I keep going in each company to verify the report and display names are company appropriate.

Along the topic of closing final year-end --- would I do this in the live company, or the Fiscal_008 that I created?
 
I have never subscribed to the idea that you had to create a new company to run a year end. A backup, sure, but not a new company.

So I would take the company you plan on continuing to use for daily transactions, and run the final Y/E on it.
